Mortal Kombat 2's theatrical release date has shifted once more—this time, it’s been moved up by a week to May 8, 2026.
Mortal Kombat 2 was originally scheduled to premiere on October 24, 2025, but was pushed to May 15, 2026 after Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema determined the film would thrive better at the summer box office amid the explosive fan reaction to the trailer.
The new date keeps it farther from Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu, which is set to debut on May 22.
New Line Cinema calls the sequel "the latest high-stakes chapter in the blockbuster video game franchise, delivered in all its brutal glory." Actor Adeline Rudolph recently revealed that Kitana’s role in the film will be just as central as Karl Urban’s Johnny Cage.
"Especially when I first read the script, it felt like a deep fusion of two worlds—Earthrealm, Edenia, and Outworld," Rudolph said at the time. "Kitana’s journey is intricately woven into Johnny Cage’s, and their paths cross and diverge throughout the movie."
What else is unfolding in the Mortal Kombat universe? Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection, developed by Digital Eclipse and published by Atari, arrives at the end of October. We also recently learned at New York Comic-Con that Mortal Kombat III is currently in development.
