Monster Hunter Wilds Best Weapons Tier List

Author : Matthew Mar 15,2025

Let's be clear: there's no single "best" weapon in Monster Hunter Wilds. Forget about finding that one overpowered weapon guaranteeing the fastest hunt times every single time – it doesn't exist. The key is finding a weapon that *you* enjoy and excel with. Consistent hits, successful hunts, and most importantly, fun, are what truly matter.

Building a successful weapon setup involves much more than just weapon choice. Armor, decorations, and choosing the right Artian weapon for each monster are crucial. However, if you're aiming to improve your hunt times, certain weapon types consistently stand out. This tier list combines insights from IGN's community, online discussions, my own experience (considering ease of mastery), and current speedrun data.

Monster Hunter Wilds Best Weapons Tier List

The "best" weapons in Monster Hunter Wilds, in no particular order, are Sword and Shield, Great Sword, Long Sword, Gunlance, and Bow. However, all weapons are entirely viable; these simply stand out for various reasons explained below.

S-tier: These weapons offer a fantastic balance of damage output and ease of use. The Gunlance requires more technical skill, but the community considers its rewards well worth the effort.

  • Sword and Shield
  • Great Sword
  • Long Sword
  • Gunlance
  • Bow

A-tier:

A-tier weapons can reach S-tier performance with skilled players. They often demand more precision and are less forgiving, or they fall just slightly short of the top tier. The Hunting Horn, while perhaps not optimal solo, excels in cooperative play.

  • Insect Glaive
  • Charge Blade
  • Dual Blades
  • Hunting Horn
  • Heavy Bowgun
  • Switch Axe

B-tier:

These weapons may require more effort and finely tuned builds to match the performance of S and A-tier weapons, even in expert hands. However, this doesn't mean they're "bad"—they simply might require more dedication.

  • Lance
  • Hammer
  • Light Bowgun

Why only three tiers? As stated earlier, there's no objectively "best" weapon. Weapon effectiveness varies depending on the hunted monster. Don't let tier lists discourage you from using your favorite weapon; even B-tier weapons are still excellent.
