Metro 2039 Reveal Set for April 16
Official Reveal Confirms New Game Rumors
Metro 2039 has been officially announced, with a "First Look" trailer anticipated for release on April 16. This footage will showcase the future of the post-apocalyptic first-person shooter series.
The announcement was made via Metro’s official social media accounts, specifically X (formerly Twitter). While details remain scarce, notable figures such as Xbox and The Game Awards creator Geoff Keighley have voiced their excitement, sharing news about Metro 2039 across various platforms.
Leading up to the official announcement, rumors circulated online regarding a new entry in the series, with insiders suggesting that an unveiling could happen at any moment. The confirmation of the game's launch and the upcoming trailer has now validated these speculations.
Inspired by Dmitry Glukhovsky’s novels, Metro offers an immersive first-person adventure set in irradiated Moscow after a devastating nuclear war. Mutated creatures dominate the landscape, while the extensive metro tunnels from the previous two games serve as precarious sanctuaries against the dangers above ground.
Metro Fans Weigh in On 2039’s Story
Seven years have passed since the release of Metro Exodus, the last mainline title. This semi-open-world adventure followed events from Metro: Last Light and featured an immersive first-person perspective reminiscent of GSC Game World’s S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series. Following this major launch, developer 4A Games maintained a low profile, releasing only a spin-off VR game called "Metro: Awakening" by a different studio. Despite this, fans have remained eager for the next installment in the immersive shooter franchise.
Although few details about Metro 2039 have emerged, Reddit discussions are already buzzing with theories regarding its direction. Since Exodus is set in 2035, the new game likely occurs four years after the Aurora train’s journey across a recovering Russia. Some fans hope for Artyom’s return as the protagonist from the first three games, while others anticipate a fresh character to explore the nuclear wasteland.
Regarding gameplay, players are hoping for a true open-world experience that fluidly transitions between metro tunnels and the Russian surface. However, no official details on story or mechanics have been confirmed yet.
In the meantime, fans are eagerly awaiting the trailer dropping on April 16.
