Daredevil's highly anticipated next season is on the horizon, and the creative team is already considering future possibilities, including a potential Defenders reunion.
In a recent EW profile, Brad Winderbaum, Marvel Studios' head of streaming and TV, expressed keen interest in bringing back the street-level heroes of Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist—the Defenders.
While no concrete plans exist, Winderbaum stated to EW, "The potential to work within that established universe is incredibly exciting... Unlike comic books, where creative limitations are minimal, we're bound by factors like actor availability, scheduling, and the immense production scale required for a cinematic universe, especially on television."
He continued, "Considering all these constraints, the creative possibilities are genuinely thrilling, and we're actively exploring them."
Daredevil: Born Again will directly continue the Netflix Daredevil storyline. Netflix previously hosted its own smaller-scale Marvel universe with shows like Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage. Winderbaum's comments suggest that Daredevil: Born Again could serve as a springboard to reintroduce these characters within Disney's MCU framework on Disney+. The inclusion of Jon Bernthal's Punisher in the new season already demonstrates the successful transition of a Netflix character.
The upcoming premiere of Daredevil: Born Again on March 4th will be crucial in determining how the series integrates into the broader MCU. Until then, speculation on the Defenders' return remains just that—speculation.
