Mattel163 takes a major step towards inclusivity with a significant update crafted to enhance the accessibility of its popular card games. The company is launching colorblind-friendly decks for UNO! Mobile, Phase 10: World Tour, and Skip-Bo Mobile through a new feature named Beyond Colors.
What Is Beyond Colors?
This thoughtful enhancement supports the approximately 300 million people globally who experience color vision deficiency. The traditional card colors have been redesigned, with each now represented by unique shapes such as squares and triangles. This allows all players to clearly differentiate between cards.
Enabling the Beyond Colors feature in Phase 10: World Tour, Skip-Bo Mobile, and UNO! Mobile is simple. Tap your avatar in the game, go to your account settings, and activate the Beyond Colors deck within the card theme options.
For the Beyond Colors initiative, Mattel163 worked closely with colorblind gamers to ensure the new symbols are both practical and easy to use. This effort reflects Mattel's wider commitment to accessibility, with a goal to make 80% of its games colorblind accessible by 2025.
To develop this update, Mattel163 collaborated with experts in color vision deficiency and the global gaming community, exploring solutions like patterns, tactile indicators, and symbols. This ensured that color is not the sole method for distinguishing cards.
The shapes featured in Beyond Colors are consistent across Phase 10: World Tour, Skip-Bo Mobile, and UNO! Mobile. Once you learn them in one game, you can easily recognize them in the others. Explore these games on the Google Play Store: UNO! Mobile, Phase 10: World Tour, and Skip-Bo Mobile.
