"Mastering Rune Slayer Fishing: A Beginner's Guide"

Author : Eric Apr 02,2025

If you ever doubted that *Rune Slayer* is a true MMORPG, let the inclusion of fishing put those doubts to rest. We're here to guide you through the fishing mechanics in *Rune Slayer*, which might not be as straightforward as in other games like *Fisch*. Let's dive into how you can master the art of fishing in this immersive world.

Before You Start Fishing in Rune Slayer

Before you embark on your fishing adventure, make sure to **accept the fishing quest from Simon the Fisherman**. This white-haired NPC can be found at one of the piers near where the Baracuda swims. Simon will task you with catching 5 "fish," and in return, he'll reward you with a Tackle Box. Note the quotation marks around "fish"—you'll understand why soon.

To catch these "fish," you'll need a fishing rod and some bait. Conveniently, Simon the Fisherman is also your go-to vendor for these items. **Purchase a Wood Fishing Rod and at least 5 Worms from Simon**. We recommend buying 10 Worms to be on the safe side. Here’s a crucial point: **you don’t need to equip the bait**. The Worms simply need to be in your inventory, and they will be used automatically when you catch something. **Each time you catch a "fish," one Worm will be removed from your inventory**.

Here's something important to remember: **you won't be able to catch anything unless you have at least 5 Worms in your inventory**. We tried fishing with fewer Worms and came up empty-handed. Once we had 5 Worms, the catches started coming in. It’s a good idea to keep your Worms in your hotbar to easily monitor your supply.

To start fishing, **select your Wood Fishing Rod** and move it to your hotbar or access it from your inventory. Your character will then hold the rod with both hands. **Hold M1 to cast your line into a body of water**—the pier next to Simon is a great spot.

Keep an eye on the bobber. When you see it **ripple once or twice**, **click M1 again to reel in your catch**. It’s that simple, but be prepared: **this method doesn't guarantee a catch every time**. You might often reel in nothing or just junk. The good news is **Simon considers junk as a valid catch**—hence the quotation marks around "fish" earlier.

Your goal is to cast your line, wait for the ripples, and reel in anything 5 times. In our experience, we only caught two actual fish, with the rest being Old Cups.

Once you've successfully caught 5 "fish," **return to Simon the Fisherman to complete the quest**. He will reward you with a Tackle Box. Open it and store your remaining Worms inside to free up your inventory space for other important items.
