Marvel enthusiasts can look forward to seeing more of Oscar Isaac's Moon Knight in the MCU, but not through a second season of the Disney+ series. According to Brad Winderbaum, head of Marvel Television, the strategy for Marvel's TV division has shifted since the release of Moon Knight in 2022.
Initially, Marvel Television aimed to introduce characters through their own shows, setting the stage for future tie-ins with other projects. This was evident with shows like Ms. Marvel, which brought Kamala Khan into the MCU before her feature in The Marvels. However, the approach has now pivoted towards creating shows designed for annual releases, akin to traditional television formats.
Winderbaum elaborated, "So I think Marvel Television has happened in waves, and I think Moon Knight happened in a wave of shows that were going to establish characters that would tie-in to the future. And moving forward our priorities have shifted. We’re making shows as shows that can exist as annual releases, more like television. I would love to see a Moon Knight Season 2, but there are plans for Moon Knight down the road."
While Oscar Isaac lent his voice to Moon Knight in the third and final season of the Disney+ animated series Marvel’s What If…?, there has been no confirmation yet on his return to the character in live-action.
Looking ahead, Marvel's confirmed slate of upcoming TV shows includes Daredevil: Born Again premiering in March, Ironheart in June, Eyes of Wakanda in August, Marvel Zombies in October, and Wonder Man in December. Meanwhile, last week saw Marvel Television reportedly pausing development on three other shows: Nova, Strange Academy, and Terror, Inc. However, Winderbaum hinted at exciting possibilities, revealing that the company is exploring the potential of reuniting the street-level heroes from Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist, collectively known as The Defenders.
