Warhorse Studios Confirms: Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Launches DRM-Free
Contrary to circulating rumors, Warhorse Studios has definitively stated that Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2) will not include any form of Digital Rights Management (DRM). This confirmation comes directly from PR head Tobias Stolz-Zwilling, who addressed fan concerns during a recent Twitch stream. He explicitly clarified that neither Denuvo nor any other DRM system will be implemented.
Stolz-Zwilling attributed the misinformation to misinterpretations of earlier discussions and urged players to cease inquiries about DRM integration. He emphasized that any information suggesting otherwise is inaccurate, unless officially announced by Warhorse Studios.
The absence of DRM is welcome news for many gamers, who often associate DRM, particularly Denuvo, with performance issues and negative gameplay experiences. While Denuvo serves as anti-piracy software, its impact on game performance has been a frequent source of player frustration. Denuvo product manager Andreas Ullmann has previously attributed the negative perception of Denuvo to misinformation and confirmation bias.
KCD2, set in medieval Bohemia, follows the journey of Henry, a blacksmith apprentice grappling with the aftermath of a devastating village tragedy. The game is slated for release in February 2025 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Players who contributed at least $200 to the game's Kickstarter campaign will receive a free copy. The developer's decision to forgo DRM should further enhance the anticipated launch of this highly anticipated sequel.
