Should You Kill Ygwulf or Let Him Live in Avowed? Answered

In the early minutes of *Avowed*‘s main quest, the Envoy becomes the victim of a tragic assassination. After unraveling the mystery behind their own murder, the player learns the identity of the assassin: Ygwulf. A member of the Paradisan Rebels, who fiercely oppose Aedyr's presence in the area, Ygwulf targets the Envoy due to their role as the emperor's representative. As the story progresses, you'll track Ygwulf to an underground hideout, where you'll need to overcome numerous enemies and navigate platforming challenges. Make sure to come prepared with ample Health Potions and your best gear.

While exploring the dungeon, you might come across documents that shed light on Ygwulf’s true intentions and his remorse. Initially driven by misguided visions that he believed were from the Gods, Ygwulf later regrets his actions. Even without finding these documents, Ygwulf will confess his remorse when you confront him at the end of the quest. He shows a willingness to accept justice for his deeds.

What Happens If You Spare Ygwulf or He Turns Himself In?

Choosing to have Ygwulf turn himself in to the Inquisitor of the Steel Garrote is the least favorable option. If you advise him to do so, Ygwulf will face the harsh judgment of Inquisitor Lödwyn, which is implied to be a painful death. Moreover, this choice yields fewer rewards compared to sparing him or defeating him in battle.

Opting to spare Ygwulf directly results in him giving you 625 Copper Skeyt and some Adra as a token of gratitude for your mercy. While these resources won't change your life, they can be useful. However, sparing Ygwulf doesn't change his ultimate fate, as he will be killed later in the story.

Why You Should Kill Ygwulf in Avowed

Given that Ygwulf’s destiny is sealed regardless of your choice, opting to attack him during dialogue is the most beneficial decision. This leads to a boss fight, serving as valuable practice for future encounters in *Avowed*. Additionally, defeating Ygwulf grants you the best rewards among the options available.

By defeating Ygwulf, you can loot his body for currency, Adra, and his unique armor set, Blackwing. Not only does this armor look impressive, but it also offers significant advantages, including a +30% Damage boost when attacking from stealth and a 25% Movement Speed increase when crouching, aiding in stealthy maneuvers around enemies.

Does Ygwulf’s Fate Affect the Story in Avowed? SPOILER WARNING

Despite encountering Ygwulf early in the game, his fate does have a minor impact on *Avowed*‘s ending. After completing the final gameplay section, the game presents artwork and narration that illustrate how your decisions have influenced the world of Eora across the Living Lands. No matter your efforts to bring peace and unity to the Living Lands, Ygwulf’s death will inevitably occur, further radicalizing the Paradisan Rebellion and ensuring their continued violent resistance even after the credits roll.
