Keanu Reeves has shared an exciting update on the long-awaited sequel to the 2005 cult classic, Constantine. The actor, who portrayed the iconic occult detective and exorcist John Constantine in the original film, has confirmed that a script for Constantine 2 is now in the works. This development comes after a successful pitch meeting with DC Studios, marking a significant step forward for fans who have been eagerly anticipating a follow-up for over two decades.
Reeves, riding high on the success of The Matrix, brought John Constantine to life in the 2005 adaptation, which has since garnered a dedicated following. The actor has expressed his enthusiasm for returning to the role, and it seems that the project is finally gaining traction. In a recent interview with Inverse, Reeves revealed, "We've been trying to make this film for over a decade, and we just recently put a story together and pitched it to DC Studios and they said, 'Okay.' So, we're going to try and write a script."

While this news is promising, it's important to note that there's no guarantee that Constantine 2 will be greenlit by DC Studios co-chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran. The sequel is not currently listed as a confirmed project in the rebooted DCU, and neither Gunn nor Safran have mentioned it as a possibility. Thus, the project remains on the edge of realization.
Reeves did, however, tease that if Constantine 2 comes to fruition, it will be set in the same universe as the original film. He humorously added, "We're not going off that. John Constantine's going to be tortured even more."
This update follows comments from producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who in September revealed to ComicBook that a script for Constantine 2 was already in his inbox. Di Bonaventura admitted to being hesitant to read it, driven by his deep desire for the sequel to meet high expectations. "You know it's in my inbox right now, funny enough," he said. "I'm too scared to read it, though, I want it to be good so bad. I’ll probably read it in the next few days, when I get on an airplane."
