IGN has exciting news for fans of Hollow Knight: Silksong, revealing that the much-anticipated game will be playable at Australia's national museum of screen culture, ACMI, in Melbourne starting September 18, 2025. Developed by Team Cherry, a studio based in Adelaide, South Australia, Hollow Knight: Silksong has been at the top of the Steam wishlist chart for years, making it one of the most eagerly awaited games worldwide. Although the studio has only provided a vague 2025 release window, this playable demo at ACMI offers fans a concrete opportunity to experience the game firsthand.

The game will be a key feature in the "Game Worlds" exhibition at the museum, which will not only allow visitors to play Silksong but also provide insights into its design and artistic direction. The exhibition will showcase various elements of the game, including the intricate sprite animations of the protagonist, Hornet, and the logic behind its challenging boss fights.

Bethan Johnson and Jini Maxwell, co-curators at ACMI, expressed their enthusiasm for the exhibition, stating, "Since Hollow Knight: Silksong's initial announcement in 2019, it has been one of the most anticipated indie games on the planet – and we are thrilled to celebrate the design of this South Australian-made game as a centrepiece of Game Worlds in September. From the hundreds of sprites that animate Hornet’s different movements and attacks, to the logic behind the game’s most challenging boss fights – and of course, having the game playable in-gallery – our Silksong displays delve deeply into the details of the game's artistic direction and design. We’re so grateful to Team Cherry for trusting us with their work, and so excited to share that work with you!"

As part of the announcement, ACMI shared a sprite sheet from Silksong, which is one of several design elements from the game that will be on display in the Game Worlds exhibition. The image was provided to IGN with permission.

The playable demo at the museum has sparked speculation among Hollow Knight fans about the game's release date. It's reasonable to assume that Silksong might be released before September 18, 2025, to coincide with its availability at ACMI. This could potentially mean an August launch.

Recent developments indicate that the release of Hollow Knight: Silksong is approaching. The game briefly appeared at Nintendo’s Switch 2 Direct last month, showcasing a few seconds of new gameplay and confirming Team Cherry’s updated 2025 release window. This was the most significant update on Silksong in years.

Initially confirmed for Nintendo Switch and PC, with subsequent versions planned for Xbox (including Game Pass), PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5, Silksong has been the subject of numerous teases over the years. Team Cherry started 2025 with a mysterious tease related to a chocolate cake recipe, fueling hopes among fans that a re-reveal might occur in April.
