Bandai Namco and Legendary have recently signed an agreement to co-finance this highly anticipated project, bringing the beloved series to life on the big screen for the very first time.

Although the film was first announced back in 2018, progress had been quiet until now. However, with the involvement of Legendary and the newly established Bandai Namco Filmworks America, fans can finally start getting excited about seeing their favorite mecha in live-action glory.

The film, currently without an official title, will be penned and helmed by Kim Mickle, the talented mind behind Sweet Tooth. It is slated for a global theatrical release, promising to bring the Gundam universe to audiences worldwide.

This marks the first live-action venture for a franchise that has already produced an impressive array of content, including 25 anime series, 34 animated films, 27 original anime productions, and a highly successful toy line. Together, these elements generate over $900 million annually, showcasing the franchise's immense popularity and cultural impact.

Legendary and Bandai Namco have stated that they will gradually release more details as they are finalized. While no specific release date or plot details have been shared yet, a teaser poster has been unveiled, heightening anticipation among fans.

"Mobile Suit Gundam, which began broadcasting in 1979, established the genre of 'real robot anime' that went beyond the traditional narratives of good versus evil. With its realistic portrayals of war, detailed scientific explorations, and intricately woven human dramas, it treated robots as 'weapons' known as 'mobile suits,' sparking a massive cultural phenomenon," the companies noted.
