Rey Dau is the first dragon monster you'll encounter in Monster Hunter Wilds. With its lightning element, it's immune to lightning attacks but vulnerable to water and ice. Aim for its head, which has a 4-star weakness, or its wings with a 3-star weakness. Avoid attacking its sturdy torso, and instead, target its tail if hitting the head proves challenging. Its legs are well-protected, so they're not ideal targets. For status ailments, use everything except Stun and Paralysis, as they won't be effective against this lightning dragon.
Use a Flash Pod
A key strategy to quickly take down Rey Dau is by using a Flash Pod. This tool temporarily stuns the monster, providing an opportunity to land critical hits. When Rey Dau unleashes its lightning attack, aim for its horn, which will glow bright red in Focus Mode, allowing you to deal significant damage.
Wear Element-Resistant Gear
Surviving the fight requires gear that boosts your resistance to elements. The Hope Armor set, with its Divine Blessing skill, reduces damage and provides resistance to Lightning and Fire, making it ideal for this battle. Consider also eating a meal that enhances your elemental resistance. If dodging is an issue, stay close to Rey Dau's legs, as it primarily attacks in front and behind, reducing your chances of getting hit.
Pay Attention to the Environment
Rey Dau's mobility means it will fly between different locations. In the open plains, use Vine Traps on the lone tree to stun the monster briefly. Be cautious when it returns to its nest, as it uses a follow-up lightning attack that can easily stun you. Avoid hastiness in this area to prevent being zapped to death.

How to Capture Rey Dau in Monster Hunter Wilds
Instead of fighting to the death, capturing Rey Dau can yield rewards. Reduce its health until it's near death, indicated by a skull icon on the mini-map. At this point, set up a trap. Since Rey Dau is a lightning dragon, avoid using Shock Traps; a Pitfall Trap is recommended. Follow up with a Tranquilizer to prevent the dragon from escaping—you have only a few seconds to act, so be prepared.
