Big news for Netflix Games subscribers who enjoy Grand Theft Auto! GTA III and GTA Vice City are leaving the Netflix Games catalog next month.
Why the Departure? License Expiration.
This isn't a surprise; Netflix licenses games like it does movies and shows. The licenses for GTA III and Vice City expire next month. You'll see a "Leaving Soon" tag on the games before they're removed.
These GTA titles joined Netflix Games exactly one year ago, reflecting a 12-month initial agreement with Rockstar Games. After December 13th, they'll be unavailable to Netflix subscribers. So, if you're currently exploring Liberty City or cruising Vice City's streets via Netflix, finish your adventures soon! Note that Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas remains available.
Where to Play Next?
If you haven't completed these games, you can purchase them on the Google Play Store. The Definitive Editions of Grand Theft Auto III and Vice City are each $4.99, or you can get the entire trilogy for $11.99.
Unlike the sudden removal of Samurai Shodown V and WrestleQuest last year, Netflix is giving players advance notice. This is interesting, considering the GTA trilogy contributed significantly to Netflix Games' subscriber growth in 2023. However, Rockstar Games has chosen not to renew the license with Netflix Games at this time.
There are rumors of a future collaboration between Rockstar and Netflix, potentially bringing remastered versions of Liberty City Stories, Vice City Stories, and even Chinatown Wars. Let's hope this proves true!
