The long-running GTA 6 mapping project has shifted into high gear following the release of Trailer 2, with one of its key members telling IGN that "it really changes everything for us for the rest of the year." The excitement is palpable in the GTA 6 Mapping Discord, where the project's 370 members (soon to surpass 400) are diving deep into the new trailer to extract every possible detail.
"It's an information overload - it really changes everything for us for the rest of the year," Garza, who manages the Discord server, shared with IGN. "We have so much new content to work on and we're really just getting started."
The GTA 6 Mapping Discord was born in the wake of the massive September 2022 leaks, which some fans believe Rockstar subtly acknowledged at the beginning of Trailer 2. The project's aim is to construct the most accurate map of GTA 6 possible, a task that, until the recent trailer, relied heavily on those leaks and the content from December 2023's Trailer 1.
The latest map version, GTA VI Mapping Project v0.049, released by project lead DuPz0r at the end of March, is now considered outdated due to the wealth of new information provided by Trailer 2. This new data is set to enhance the map's accuracy and detail significantly.

Alongside confirming plot details, characters, and releasing 70 new GTA 6 screenshots, Rockstar unveiled insights and images of various explorable locations within the state of Leonida, GTA 6's version of Florida. Confirmed areas include Vice City (GTA 6's Miami), the tropical Leonida Keys archipelago, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and the northern national landmark, Mount Kalaga.
Volunteers are meticulously analyzing the trailer to pinpoint the exact locations of everything shown, aiming to correlate fictional spaces with their real-world inspirations to refine GTA 6's map further. Once complete, DuPz0r will release an updated version, which fans eagerly anticipate as their most comprehensive preview of GTA 6 ahead of its May 2026 release.
Should Rockstar release additional GTA 6 assets, particularly gameplay footage, the mapping community will continue their efforts. Only upon the game's launch will they be able to assess the accuracy of their work against the actual in-game map.

However, the looming threat of intervention by Rockstar's parent company, Take-Two, hangs over the project. In March, a modder who created a playable version of the GTA 6 map within GTA 5 was forced to halt their work following a Take-Two takedown notice. That mod was based on the GTA 6 mapping project.
When asked last year about concerns over potential action from Take-Two, Garza expressed "some mild concern." He noted, "This project has been ongoing for quite some time without any direct disruption to our community. However, I always keep it in consideration if they intend to communicate with us in the future for any reason. We do not explicitly showcase leaked material in the map, so I do not believe they would take that down in particular. I believe they are aware that this project generates excitement and interest in the game, as everyone is eager to see what the world might look like. This could be one reason they haven't intervened, as it's not overtly negative. If I were to receive a cease and desist order, I would comply respectfully. As we approach a more detailed map, it's possible we might receive such a notice in the future."
As we await further developments, stay tuned for more on GTA 6, including all the details we've uncovered so far and the latest GTA 6 fan theories inspired by Trailer 2.
