The God of War community has unleashed a storm of discontent, as fans are reportedly review-bombing God of War Ragnarok on Steam due to Sony's contentious PlayStation Network (PSN) account requirement.
God of War Ragnarok PC Launches to Mixed Rating on Steam
GoW Fans Unleash Chaos Over PSN Requirement
Since its recent launch on PC via Steam, God of War Ragnarok has been met with a 'mixed' user score. A significant number of fans have expressed their frustration by review-bombing the game, primarily due to Sony's widely criticized mandate for a PSN account to play the title. Released just last week, God of War Ragnarok is currently hovering around a 6/10 rating on the platform.
Sony's decision to require a PSN account for the PC version of this single-player action-adventure game has left many fans bewildered and appears to be the driving force behind the wave of negative reviews.
Despite the backlash, some players have reported that they were able to enjoy the game without needing to link a PSN account. One player shared, "I get why people are upset about the PlayStation account stuff. It sucks when developers stuff online features into a single-player game. But I don't even understand because I could play fine without logging in. It sucks because those reviews are gonna turn people away from an incredible game."
Another player expressed frustration, saying, "PSN account requirement kills the excitement, launched the game and even logged in but it gets stuck on the Black screen, didn't play the game but it shows I played it for 1 hour 40 minutes, how ridiculous that can be," in their Steam review.
Nevertheless, amidst the criticism, there are players who have shared positive feedback about the game, praising their overall experience while acknowledging that the negative reviews stem from Sony's PSN requirement. One player remarked, "Good story as expected. Players are giving negative reviews mostly for PSN. Sony has to look carefully now into this matter. Otherwise, the game is top-notch to play on PC."
Sony previously encountered a similar situation with Helldivers 2, where a PSN account was also required. The backlash was significant enough that Sony eventually reversed its decision, canceling the PSN account linking requirement for Helldivers 2.
