Sony and Santa Monica Studio have unveiled the Dark Odyssey collection, a highly anticipated update for God of War Ragnarök set to launch next week. This update introduces a range of in-game equipment inspired by one of the franchise's most iconic outfits, offering players a fresh aesthetic experience.
In a recent PlayStation.Blog post, Sony outlined its comprehensive plans for celebrating the 20th anniversary of the God of War series. The centerpiece of these celebrations is the Dark Odyssey collection, which will be available as a free update on March 20 for all God of War Ragnarök players on PlayStation 5 and PC.
The Dark Odyssey collection boasts a sleek, black-and-gold theme that promises to elevate the appearance of Kratos, Atreus, and Freya as they navigate the Norse realms. This update includes new cosmetic sets for Atreus and Freya, as well as a variety of themed shields and weapons for the player.
The highlight of the Dark Odyssey collection is undoubtedly the new appearance and armor set for Kratos, which pays homage to a legendary skin from God of War 2. This exclusive skin was previously only available to players who conquered the game on God Mode difficulty. Following the update, players can access this coveted content from any Lost Items chest in the base game or directly in the roguelike Valhalla mode. Additionally, the update will enable players to customize the appearance of Kratos' weapons without impacting their unique abilities.

God of War Ragnarök was released in late 2022, and while the Dark Odyssey update is a significant addition, Sony has planned a broader celebration of the franchise's 20-year milestone. This includes a variety of activities and offers for fans, such as downloadable social media assets (available here), an art showcase in collaboration with Los Angeles' Gallery Nucleus, new merchandise, sales, multiple vinyl releases covering the franchise's history, and more.
Santa Monica Studio expressed their gratitude to the fans, stating, "On behalf of everyone at Santa Monica Studio, we are immeasurably grateful to have had the chance to build the legacy of this series with and for you, the fans of God of War."
