The release date for Gears of War: Reloaded has officially been announced, with the game launching on PS5 simultaneously alongside its Xbox release. Read on to discover more about this multiplatform launch and the exciting enhancements fans can look forward to.
Multiplatform Release
Gears of War has long stood as a flagship franchise for Xbox, known for its intense action gameplay and deep narrative. However, in a surprising move, Xbox revealed via a Twitter (X) post on May 6 that Gears of War: Reloaded will be coming to all platforms on August 26—including PS5.
This marks another step in Xbox’s broader strategy of expanding beyond console exclusivity. In a January interview with GamerTag Radio, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer voiced his strong support for making Xbox-published games available across platforms. He remarked, “We love our platform and our hardware but we're not going to put walls up where people can engage with the great games our studios are building.”
While nothing has been officially confirmed yet, this approach could hint at a similar future for upcoming titles such as Gears of War: E-Day. For now, fans eagerly await any further announcements regarding potential cross-platform releases for other Xbox exclusives.
Faithful Remaster, Built for the Future
Fans were initially surprised by the announcement of Reloaded, especially since the original title had already received a remaster in Gears of War: Ultimate Edition back in 2015. In an official Xbox Wire post published on May 5, Mike Crump, Studio Head at The Coalition, offered insight into what players can expect from this new version.
He stated, “As we approach the 20th anniversary of Gears of War in 2026, we’re reflecting on what this franchise means. It’s about the stories we’ve told, the friendships we’ve built, and the unforgettable moments we’ve shared together. With Gears of War: Reloaded, we’re opening that door to more players than ever.”
Performance-wise, Reloaded offers significant improvements over the 2015 release. While the Ultimate Edition ran at 1080p and 30fps during campaign, with multiplayer hitting 60fps, Reloaded pushes the visuals even further—offering 4K resolution at 60fps in campaign mode and a buttery-smooth 120fps in multiplayer. Additional visual upgrades include 4K assets, remastered textures, enhanced post-processing effects, improved shadows, and high-quality reflections.
According to the Xbox Wire update, players will receive full access to all post-launch downloadable content at no extra cost. This includes the bonus campaign act, all multiplayer maps and modes, plus a complete lineup of classic characters and cosmetic items unlocked through progression.
Those who already own Gears of War: Ultimate Edition will be eligible for a free upgrade to Reloaded. A direct message containing the upgrade code will be sent to qualifying Xbox accounts ahead of the game's launch.
Gears of War: Reloaded is scheduled to launch on August 26, 2025, and will be priced at $39.99 on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. Additionally, it will be available on day one via Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass.
