Rome boasts Italy's largest video game museum! GAMM, the Game Museum, has officially opened its doors to the public in Piazza della Repubblica. The museum is the creation of Marco Accordi Rickards, a writer, journalist, professor, and CEO of Vigamus.
Rickards is deeply committed to preserving and celebrating video game history. He describes GAMM as an immersive experience blending historical context, technological advancements, and interactive gameplay exploration. GAMM builds upon the legacy of Vigamus, another successful Rome-based gaming museum that has attracted over two million visitors since 2012.
The new GAMM museum occupies 700 square meters across two floors, showcasing three captivating thematic zones. Before delving into the details, take a peek at the museum!
Here's a Glimpse of GAMM:
GAMMDOME: This interactive digital space combines historical gaming artifacts – consoles, donations, and other memorabilia – with engaging interactive stations. The design is based on the 4 E Concept: Experience, Exhibition, Education, and Entertainment.
PARC (Path of Arcadia): Journey back to the golden age of arcade games! This zone features classic coin-op games from the late 1970s through the 1980s, with a touch of early 1990s nostalgia.
HIP (Historical Playground): This area focuses on the mechanics of gameplay, allowing visitors to examine game structure, interaction mechanics, and design principles. Consider it a behind-the-scenes look at the evolution of gaming.
GAMM is open Monday to Thursday from 9:30 AM to 7:30 PM, and Fridays and Saturdays until 11:30 PM. Tickets cost 15 euros. For more information, visit the official GAMM website.
