'Back to the Future' Screenwriter Firm: No Prequels, Spinoffs, or Sequels Ever

The iconic sci-fi franchise, "Back to the Future," will "never" see another installment or spinoff, insists its screenwriter, Bob Gale. Despite rumors fueled by the success of "Cobra Kai" and its creators discussing a potential "Back to the Future" TV series, Gale has firmly shut down any speculation about reviving the beloved trilogy.

In an interview with People, Gale expressed his frustration with persistent questions about the franchise's future. "I don't know why they keep talking about that!" he remarked. "I mean, do they think that if they say it enough times, we're going to actually do it?" Gale categorically dismissed the possibility of a "Back to the Future 4," a prequel, or any spinoffs, stating, "Never. It's just fine the way it is. It's not perfect, but as Bob Zemeckis used to say, 'It's perfect enough.'"

While Gale's stance is clear, he acknowledges that Hollywood could potentially override their wishes, but any revival would need the approval of executive producer Steven Spielberg. Gale humorously noted, "If the juggernaut of corporate America or corporate international mishigas says, 'If you don't agree to this, we're going to kill your children,' alright, well, no, we don't want our children killed." He emphasized that Spielberg shares their sentiment, respecting their decision not to expand the "Back to the Future" universe further, and has always supported their position.

Gale's firm stance is consistent with his previous comments. Earlier in the year, he bluntly told fans hoping for a "Back to the Future 4," "People always say, 'When are you going to do Back to the Future 4?' And we say, 'F**k you.'"

The original "Back to the Future" film, released in 1985, follows high school student Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox), who is accidentally sent back in time by the eccentric scientist Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd). The movie became one of the most iconic sci-fi films ever and spawned two sequels, cementing its place in cinematic history.
