Master Chief, the iconic face (though hidden behind a helmet) of the Halo franchise, is a highly sought-after skin in Fortnite. His recent return to the in-game shop, after a two-year absence, was met with excitement…until a small detail soured the celebration.
The original release of the Master Chief skin included a special Matte Black style, exclusively awarded to players on Xbox Series S|X. For a considerable period, Epic Games advertised this style as permanently obtainable. The subsequent announcement of its discontinuation, therefore, caused significant backlash.
Some fans even believed this action violated legal agreements and began preparations for a class-action lawsuit. However, Epic Games swiftly reversed course within 24 hours. The Matte Black style will now remain available to all Master Chief skin owners who play a single game on an Xbox Series S|X console.
This reversal appears to be the most prudent decision, especially considering the holiday season. Spoiling the festive cheer with such a controversial move would have been unwise.
