Fun Dog Studios has recently rolled out a major update for their extraction-survival game, The Forever Winter, titled The Descent to Averno is Easy. This update, available now in the game's early access phase, brings significant enhancements to core mechanics, promising a deeper and more engaging player experience.
One of the most revolutionary changes is the revamped water system. Water no longer depletes in real-time but instead functions as a currency for accessing various regions within the game. The daily fluctuating cost of entry adds a strategic layer to gameplay, allowing players to trade water with teammates before matches. This shift has prompted adjustments in quest rewards and resource distribution across the map. To acknowledge players who had stockpiled water prior to the update, Fun Dog Studios has promised a special bonus in the future.
Combat mechanics have received a thorough overhaul. Enhancements include improvements to recoil, accuracy, weapon sway, and handling. Aiming mechanics, reload animations, and shotgun balance have also been refined, with these changes currently affecting several weapons and slated for expansion across the entire arsenal in upcoming updates.
The enemy AI has been upgraded to offer a more realistic challenge. Detection indicators now provide clearer feedback on enemy proximity, allowing players to better anticipate when they might be spotted. Enemies also react more intelligently to their environment and combat situations. Moreover, the spawn system has been updated to prevent enemies from materializing directly in front of or behind players, promoting fairer engagements.
Adding to the game's diversity, The Descent to Averno is Easy introduces the Stairway to Heaven map and a night mode for the Frozen Swamp area, infusing horror-inspired elements into the atmosphere. Other enhancements include an improved looting system, reworked melee combat for enemies, and a range of new quests for players to conquer.
