Fire Emblem Warriors (2017)

Launched in 2017, Fire Emblem Warriors marked the first Fire Emblem title on the Switch and is a crossover with the Dynasty Warriors series. It masterfully blends Fire Emblem’s strategic team-based gameplay with Dynasty Warriors’ thrilling hack-and-slash action. While the narrative may not be as deep as other Fire Emblem games, it’s a must-play for action enthusiasts. This title was crafted by Omega Force, in collaboration with Team Ninja, renowned for Ninja Gaiden and Nioh.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses was a landmark release, being the first home console entry in 12 years and the first mainline game on the Switch. It achieved both critical acclaim and commercial success, building on the legacy of Awakening from seven years prior. This expansive tactical RPG seamlessly intertwines grand battles that drive a compelling story of politics and religion with intimate moments at the monastery, where players engage in training, teaching, and bonding with characters through rich dialogue and interactions. If you're new to the series and playing on Switch, Three Houses is the perfect starting point.

In 2020, Nintendo released Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore, an enhanced version of the original Wii U game. Encore includes additional story content, characters, and music, merging Fire Emblem's "weapon triangle" combat with the dynamic style, dungeon exploration, and combat of Atlus’s Shin Megami Tensei and Persona series. The game’s story is a humorous and exaggerated take on Japanese pop culture, prioritizing action over narrative depth.

Nintendo collaborated once again with Omega Force for Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, their second crossover with the Dynasty Warriors series. Set in an alternate timeline from Three Houses, this game features Byleth as the main antagonist. Three Hopes offers a more comprehensive integration of Fire Emblem’s social and tactical elements with Dynasty Warriors’ fast-paced action, making it a richer experience than its predecessor.

Fire Emblem Engage, the most recent addition to the series and the second mainline entry on the Switch, builds on the foundation laid by Three Houses while paying homage to the series' history. It refines the social and hub mechanics while emphasizing the tactical combat that fans love, including the return of the "weapon triangle" system. The narrative follows Alear, the Divine Dragon, on a quest to collect 12 rings and defeat the Fell Dragon, with each ring housing the spirit of a past Fire Emblem hero, allowing players to summon iconic characters like Marth, Ike, Celica, and Byleth.
