The Exit 8 has now made its way to Android devices, offering a unique blend of elements in a gripping experience. Developed by Kotake Create and published by Playism, this $3.99 game is a walking simulator with a twist, enveloped in an eerie atmosphere that challenges every step you take.
A Creepy Walking Adventure
In The Exit 8, players navigate through an endless underground passageway reminiscent of a Japanese metro station. You find yourself trapped in a loop where the tiles, lights, posters, and even the solitary man walking towards you repeat endlessly. The core challenge lies in spotting anomalies—perhaps a poster with a different graphic, lights flickering unusually, or even a river of blood replacing the floor. The game's mechanics revolve around noticing these subtle changes and reacting swiftly.
If you detect something unusual, you must turn back. If not, you continue forward. The objective is to reach the eighth exit without making a mistake, which means correctly identifying and responding to eight consecutive anomalies. Fail, and you'll have to start over.
The Exit 8 Lets You Soak in a Surreal, Unsettling Atmosphere
The game's design draws inspiration from the concept of liminal spaces and the Backrooms, with settings modeled after real Japanese metro stations, such as Kiyosumi-Shirakawa Station in Tokyo. This influence is evident in the claustrophobic corridors and repetitive architecture, creating an immersive environment.
The Exit 8 encourages active engagement with your surroundings, prompting you to scrutinize every detail for signs of danger or reality distortion. This constant questioning of your memory and perception ensures that each playthrough feels unique and unsettling.
Originally released for PC in November 2023, The Exit 8 took about nine months to develop. It garnered 1.4 million downloads worldwide on Steam. Now available on mobile, you can download it from the Google Play Store.
