Exclusive Unveiling: Sony Updates PSN Policy for PC Players

Sony's PC gaming policy sparks controversy. The company's requirement for PSN tethering, even in single-player titles, and the service's limited regional availability, restrict sales of recent releases.

Sony recently announced policy adjustments. While PSN tethering for PC remains, certain relaxations are in effect. These games will not require mandatory PSN tethering:

  • Marvel's Spider-Man 2
  • God of War Ragnarök
  • The Last of Us Part II Remastered
  • Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered

PSN tethering still offers incentives:

  • Marvel's Spider-Man 2: Early access to the "2099" suit line for Peter Parker and Miles Morales.
  • God of War Ragnarök: Access to the Black Bear armor set, the first "Lost Things" chest, and resource packs.
  • The Last of Us Part II Remastered: Bonus points for unlocking features.
  • Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered: The Nora Valiant costume.

In November, COO Hiroki Totoki acknowledged investor concerns regarding PSN connection requirements, emphasizing their importance for security and order. While he referenced service-based games, he didn't clarify how requiring a PSN account enhances security in single-player games like Marvel's Spider-Man 2 or God of War Ragnarök.

Times have changed, and this policy continues to be debated.
