Elder Scrolls 4 Remake Rumors Reignite

Oblivion Remake Hints Emerge: Unreal Engine 5 and 2025 Release Speculation

A LinkedIn profile belonging to a game developer strongly suggests an Oblivion remake is underway, utilizing Unreal Engine 5. This fuels existing speculation about a potential reveal at a 2025 Xbox Developer Direct, although the event itself remains unconfirmed. The anticipation is high, further amplified by the widespread desire for a new Elder Scrolls VI trailer within the same year.

Rumors surrounding an Oblivion remake have circulated for years, with a 2023 prediction suggesting a 2024 or 2025 launch. In late December 2024, Xbox insider Jez Corden added fuel to the fire, forecasting a January 2025 unveiling during an Xbox Developer Direct. Given the company's history of hosting these events in January (2023 and 2024), this possibility holds significant weight. The latest evidence further strengthens the belief that an announcement is imminent.

A Technical Art Director at Virtuos, a Chinese development studio reportedly involved in the project, lists an "unannounced Unreal Engine 5 remake for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S" on their LinkedIn profile. While the game isn't explicitly named, the context and engine specification strongly point towards Oblivion, suggesting a full remake rather than a simple remaster. This contrasts with the previously rumored Fallout 3 remaster, the status of which remains unclear.

LinkedIn Profile Bolsters Remake Claims

Released in 2006, Oblivion (the sequel to 2002's Morrowind) garnered widespread critical acclaim for its expansive world, visuals, and soundtrack. Since 2012, the Skyblivion mod has captivated fans, aiming to recreate Oblivion within Skyrim's engine. A recent video update hints at a potential 2025 release for this ambitious project.

The future of the Elder Scrolls franchise remains somewhat shrouded in mystery. The sole trailer for Elder Scrolls VI, released in 2018, has left fans yearning for more. Bethesda Game Studios has confirmed it as their next major project following Starfield, with director Todd Howard suggesting a release timeframe of "15 to 17 years after Skyrim." While a concrete release window remains elusive, hopes are high for a new trailer before the close of 2025.
