Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree DLC receives a balancing update (1.12.2) to ease difficulty. While praised, the DLC's challenging nature led to player frustration and review bombing on Steam. This update directly addresses concerns about difficulty, particularly in the early and late stages of the expansion.
The update significantly boosts attack power and damage reduction from Shadow Realm Blessings (like Scadutree Fragments) during the first half of their enhancement levels. Improvements are more gradual in the latter half, with a slight increase for the final enhancement level. This should make early encounters and the final boss battles significantly less punishing.
Bandai Namco even issued a reminder to players to utilize Scadutree Fragments, highlighting their importance in mitigating the DLC's difficulty. These collectible items, found throughout the DLC, enhance damage output and damage resistance when used at Sites of Grace.
The update also fixes a PC-specific bug where ray tracing automatically activates when loading saves from older versions, causing framerate issues for some players. Players experiencing unstable framerates are advised to manually disable ray tracing in the graphics settings.
Further updates are planned to address additional bugs and balance adjustments.
Elden Ring Update 1.12.2 Patch Notes Summary:

- Ray Tracing Bug (PC): Fixed automatic activation of ray tracing when loading older saves. Players should manually disable if experiencing performance issues.
- Future Updates: More balance adjustments and bug fixes are planned.
The update requires a multiplayer server login to apply the calibration. Check the bottom right of the title menu; "Calibration Ver. 1.12.2" confirms the update's successful installation.
