  • The 2024 Dungeons & Dragons Monster Manual boasts over 500 monsters, including high-level creatures and exciting variants.
  • Stat blocks are streamlined, now including habitat, treasure, and gear information for easier DM use.

The highly anticipated 2024 Dungeons & Dragons Monster Manual is almost here! This final core rulebook in the 2024 D&D revamp launches February 18th, with early access for D&D Beyond subscribers (February 4th for Master Tier, February 11th for Hero Tier).

This release marks the culmination of a multi-year effort to refresh the 5th Edition ruleset for its 10th anniversary. Following the new Player's Handbook (September 17th) and Dungeon Master's Guide (November 12th), the Monster Manual completes the core rulebook trilogy.

Featuring over 500 streamlined stat blocks, the manual includes 85 brand-new creatures, 40 humanoid NPCs, and exciting variations on classic monsters like the primeval owlbear, vampire umbral lord, and their nightbringer minions. High-level play is also catered for, with enhanced high-level creature stats, streamlined attacks, revamped Legendary Actions, and terrifying bosses such as the CR 21 arch-hag and the CR 22 elemental cataclysm.

2024 Dungeons & Dragons Monster Manual Contents

  • Over 500 monsters, including:
    • 85 entirely new creatures
    • 40 humanoid NPCs ready for your campaigns
    • High-level monsters like the elemental cataclysm and arch-hag
    • Variant monsters such as the primeval owlbear, vampire nightbringer, and vampire umbral lord
  • Rebalanced, user-friendly stat blocks incorporating habitat, treasure, and gear details.
  • Convenient tables sorting monsters by habitat, creature type, and Challenge Rating (CR).
  • Comprehensive guides for understanding and utilizing monster stat blocks effectively.
  • Hundreds of stunning new pieces of artwork.

Beyond the stat blocks, the manual provides invaluable tools for using these monsters. Most entries now include habitat information and potential treasure, enhancing immersion and rewarding player exploration. Additionally, the gear used by monsters is listed, allowing players to potentially loot and utilize powerful adversary equipment. Conveniently, habitat, creature type, and CR sorting tables are included within the Monster Manual itself, eliminating the need to cross-reference with the Dungeon Master's Guide.

New sections titled "How to Use a Monster" and "Running a Monster" offer practical advice and guidance for DMs of all experience levels, ensuring everyone can effectively utilize the book's content.

While detailed custom creature creation tools aren't included (unlike the 2014 Dungeon Master's Guide), the wealth of pre-made content and helpful guides more than compensates. The complete contents will be revealed soon, with early digital access for D&D Beyond subscribers arriving well before the February 18th official release.
