As Dune: Awakening nears its June release, Funcom confirms its servers are ready for a potential surge of players. In a May 7 Steam post, the developer addressed concerns from the first closed beta, detailing server infrastructure and multiplayer mechanics.

Players will select a home server within a World, each containing at least 20 servers, enabling cross-server interactions.

Funcom anticipates high demand at launch, with some servers possibly reaching capacity. The studio plans to deploy thousands of servers across hundreds of Worlds to accommodate players.

“A Hagga Basin server supports 40 concurrent players, but daily population shifts allow hundreds to call it home,” Funcom noted. “Closed beta tests confirmed our systems can limit character creation on oversubscribed servers to prevent overcrowding.”

While Dune: Awakening emphasizes large-scale multiplayer, solo play on Arrakis is supported. Single-player and private servers will be added post-launch, not at release.
