Dune: Awakening Dev Confirms Full Launch Date, Reveals Optional DLCs

Dune: Awakening, the eagerly anticipated multiplayer survival game inspired by Frank Herbert’s iconic sci-fi novel and its cinematic adaptations, is gearing up for a full launch on May 20. Developer Funcom has clarified that this release will not be an Early Access version, but rather a complete launch, ready for players to dive into the expansive world of Arrakis without the need for a subscription.

Despite its classification as an MMO, Funcom has opted for a business model that eschews subscriptions in favor of free updates and optional DLCs. This approach mirrors the successful strategy used with their other long-standing titles like Anarchy Online and Conan Exiles, which continue to receive free updates, expansions, and DLCs years after their initial release. Funcom assures that Dune: Awakening will follow suit, with continuous free updates introducing new content, features, and enhancements to keep the game evolving.

The game's standard edition is set at a price point of $49.99, while the Deluxe Edition at $69.99 and the Ultimate Edition at $89.99 offer additional perks. Both the Deluxe and Ultimate Editions include a five-day head start and various exclusive items. The Deluxe Edition features the Sardaukar armor, reflecting the elite military force that players will encounter in the game. The Ultimate Edition encompasses all Deluxe content, plus Paul Atreides' iconic stillsuit from the 2021 film, a digital artbook, a digital soundtrack, unique color patterns, and the Caladan Palace Set with its assortment of building pieces, placeables, and decorations.

Pre-ordering any edition of Dune: Awakening rewards players with a universal color pattern applicable to vehicles, weapons, and armor, as well as the Terrarium of Muad'Dib, an in-base decoration featuring the famous desert mouse.
