Last year's Switch release of Square Enix's monster-collecting RPG, Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince, was a delightful experience despite some technical hiccups. Its charm and addictive gameplay easily surpassed other Dragon Quest spin-offs on the platform, rivaling the exceptional Dragon Quest Builders 2. While a PC port was anticipated, a mobile release seemed far off. However, Square Enix surprised us by announcing the arrival of Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince ($23.99) on iOS, Android, and Steam on September 11th, complete with all previously released DLC, including the Digital Deluxe Edition content. Importantly, the Steam and mobile versions will omit the online real-time battle mode ("Online Battles") featured in the Switch version.
Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince is currently available on Nintendo Switch, priced at $59.99 (standard) and $84.99 (Digital Deluxe Edition). Having thoroughly enjoyed the Switch version, I eagerly anticipate reviewing it on iPhone, iPad, and Steam Deck upon its September 11th launch. This swift mobile porting is a welcome surprise, especially considering the typical delays seen with other Dragon Quest titles like Dragon Quest Builders.
