Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii: A Blend of Manly Drama and Comedic Chaos

RGG Studio promises a unique blend of serious storytelling and over-the-top humor in their upcoming title, Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii. This latest installment features a "more serious" Goro Majima, according to director Masayoshi Yokoyama, especially at the story's outset.

However, the signature Like a Dragon humor isn't entirely absent. Producer Ryosuke Horii clarifies that the game centers on a "manly drama," focusing on Majima's determined pursuit of his goals and the bonds he forms along the way. While acknowledging the game's comedic elements, Horii emphasizes the core narrative: "The goofing off isn’t the main point – there’s a manly drama at the center of things."

Horii highlights Majima's unique qualities, differentiating him from series protagonist Kazuma Kiryu. The team aimed for a balance between the pirate theme, Majima's personality, and the overall Like a Dragon feel, pushing the boundaries of reality to deliver varied and exciting action. The goal was to avoid predictability, creating a "wilder" experience while maintaining a compelling narrative.

To celebrate the launch, RGG Studio is hosting Majima's Maji Festival across six Japanese cities. The tour, which began in Sapporo on December 1st, 2024, concludes in Nagoya (January 18th) and Tokyo (January 25th).
