It's been a while since our last update on Don't Starve Together's much-anticipated mobile release, initially announced for Netflix Games in June 2024. We have both good and bad news to share. Unfortunately, Don't Starve Together will no longer be coming to Netflix. However, the good news is that fans can still look forward to playing this survival game on their mobile devices, as it will be available on both iOS and Android platforms.
Playdigious, in collaboration with Klei Entertainment, is diligently working to bring the eerie, Tim Burton-inspired world of Don't Starve to mobile gamers. In this game, players find themselves stranded on an island teeming with hostile creatures. As one of the game's quirky characters, your mission is to gather resources and survive against all odds, ensuring you don't starve.
Originally planned as an exclusive for Netflix Games, Don't Starve Together is now set to launch globally on iOS and Android via the Google Play Store and the iOS App Store. Although an exact release date hasn't been announced, both Klei Entertainment and Playdigious have assured fans that an update on the launch is forthcoming.
No Netflix for you
It appears that Don't Starve Together's exclusivity agreement with Netflix has fallen through. While it's reassuring to know that the game will still be available globally, it raises questions about Netflix Games' future commitment to indie titles. Don't Starve is a significant franchise and one of the most iconic survival indie games. If even a game of this stature can lose its exclusivity, what does that mean for smaller indie titles?
The loss of Don't Starve Together from Netflix, alongside other indie exclusives like Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon, is a disappointing development. Netflix's indie game catalog has been a major highlight for many subscribers.
