Should You Fight Lu Bu in Dynasty Warriors: Origins?
Engaging Lu Bu is a daunting task, but the rewards can be worth it. In my experience playing *Dynasty Warriors: Origins*, it took over an hour to defeat him. Here's why you might want to take him on:
- Bragging Rights: Defeating Lu Bu is a prestigious achievement, a true badge of honor among players.
- Narrative Necessity: If you align with Shu or Wei, you're forced to face Lu Bu in Chapter 4 during the Battle of Xiapi.
- Valuable Rewards: Victory at the Battle of Hulao Gate earns you the "The Strongest" trophy, and defeating him in the post-game grants you the game's ultimate weapon, the halberd.
Lu Bu’s First Phase
Preparation is key before facing Lu Bu. Equip a weapon like a sword that can hit multiple times and stagger him. Choose Battle Arts that require minimal Bravery, activate quickly, and have a wide range. In my battle, I used Falcon Flurry, Mad Blade Rush, Absconding Slash, and Flying Dragon Slash. Don't forget accessories that boost your health and defense, such as Divine Bird’s Wing and Divine Turtle’s Shell, to endure his powerful attacks. A weapon skill that grants Bravery for each Perfect Evade is crucial, as this will be your primary way to accumulate Bravery during the fight.
During this initial phase, Lu Bu rides his horse, Red Hare. He charges around the area but will pause to rest occasionally. Use these moments to hit him with your Battle Arts and then quickly retreat. His attacks are manageable, except for Red Hare's jump and crash, which has a larger area of effect. Once Lu Bu's health drops to 80%, he dismounts, and the real challenge begins.
Lu Bu’s Second Phase
On foot, Lu Bu is relentless. His rapid attacks and swift movements across the battlefield are marked by a red aura, indicating he can't be staggered. He charges in sets of three, and if he charges without his spear, he's attempting a grab that can severely damage your health – evade these at all costs.
His most dangerous move is when he glows orange, preparing to fire three massive arrows three times in a row, which can juggle and obliterate your health. Use a long-range Battle Art like Absconding Slash to interrupt this attack. Close-range Battle Arts like Palm Strike will result in instant death. Keep your Musou gauge charged for emergency invincibility to survive potential mistakes.
Lu Bu can be juggled easily during this phase, allowing you to quickly charge your Battle Arts and deplete his Fortitude meter. Stay close to react swiftly to his attacks, and remember: evade, evade, evade.
Lu Bu’s Final Phase
When Lu Bu's health is sufficiently depleted, he enters Musou Rage, signaling the final phase. Now unstaggarable, he unleashes a relentless barrage of attacks. Your objective is to deplete his Fortitude before he executes his Musou Attack. Use all your remaining resources: activate your Musou attacks, deploy your Battle Arts, and strike fast and hard. If he successfully performs his Musou Attack, he'll immediately reactivate it, forcing you to restart the phase. Breaking his Fortitude here will finally allow you to vanquish this legendary foe.
And that's how you defeat Lu Bu in *Dynasty Warriors: Origins!* The game is now available for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
