How To Defeat Zhang Jiao In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Conquering Zhang Jiao, the leader of the Yellow Turbans, is a pivotal early challenge in Dynasty Warriors: Origins. This guide will walk you through his two phases, ensuring victory.

Conquering Zhang Jiao: Phase 1

The initial encounter is a one-on-one duel in a vast wasteland. Zhang Jiao utilizes sorcery, hurling stones across the arena. His attacks vary based on your distance. Up close, he summons four stones, demanding swift evasion. From afar, he unleashes eight stones in pairs, easily dodged by circling him. Maintain a safe distance when he summons a large volley to avoid heavy damage.

While his attacks primarily keep you at bay, he also employs close-range combos (easily parried) and an area-of-effect (AOE) attack that pushes you back. A glowing white aura signals his impending AOE; evade to avoid damage. He'll later use unblockable attacks (red aura), summoning numerous rocks and clones. The best strategy here is to maintain distance until the attack concludes before resuming your offense. For optimal damage output, equip a sword.

Resource management is crucial. Your healing opportunities are limited (likely four, depending on skill upgrades). Meat buns are conveniently located near the arena entrance. Use these strategically between attacks to maintain your health.

Conquering Zhang Jiao: Phase 2

Activating Musou Rage triggers Phase 2, bringing Yellow Turban reinforcements. Fortunately, your army arrives to assist, providing much-needed breathing room. This is an ideal time to replenish your health with those meat buns.

Zhang Jiao introduces tornados, adding another layer of challenge. While eliminating his soldiers, be mindful of these whirlwinds to prevent being thrown off balance. After eliminating a sufficient number of soldiers, Zhang Jiao attempts a Grand Tactic. You'll need to defeat 300 soldiers within a short timeframe; failure results in a devastating attack. He'll also summon lightning strikes. Watch for the closing ring on the ground and evade when it flashes. Musou Mode, when timed correctly, is highly effective for eliminating large groups of soldiers quickly, but standard Musou mode may be more efficient considering the time limit.

Foiling Zhang Jiao's Grand Tactic twice brings him back to the battlefield with Phase 1 tactics. With your army's support, eliminating his remaining health should be relatively straightforward, concluding Chapter 1.

With these strategies, you'll be well-equipped to conquer Zhang Jiao in Dynasty Warriors: Origins, available now on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
