Who is Danny Dyer and Why is Rockstar Posting About His Latest Movie?

Author : Isabella Mar 19,2025

If you follow Rockstar Games on X (formerly Twitter), you might have been surprised by their recent post about the film Marching Powder and its star, Danny Dyer. The post, promoting the film's UK and Ireland release, left many wondering about Rockstar's involvement. Let's clear up the mystery.

Who is Danny Dyer?

Daniel John Dyer, or Danny Dyer as he's known, is a well-known East London actor. In the UK, he's a household name, often described as a "legend"—a term signifying someone funny, reckless, original, and sensitive. His career spans back to 1993, with a reputation for portraying working-class characters, a persona mirrored in his outspoken public image and "tough uncle" attitude. His social media presence is also known for its colourful and often outrageous posts. For example, one memorable tweet discussed his plans for Bonfire Night, involving a "great big massive fuck off Rocket".

Danny Dyer's Connection to Rockstar

For Grand Theft Auto fans unfamiliar with Dyer, his voice might be recognizable. He voiced Kent Paul, manager of the band Love Fist in GTA: Vice City, and reprised the role for GTA: San Andreas with the band Gurning Chimps. However, his connection to Rockstar runs deeper. Rockstar Games produced The Football Factory, a 2004 British film starring Dyer and directed by Nick Love.

Marching Powder and Rockstar's Involvement

Marching Powder, a new film releasing in the UK and Ireland, reunites Dyer and Love. While not a sequel to The Football Factory, it shares thematic similarities, exploring football hooliganism, heavy drinking, drug use, and a distinctly British sense of humour. Despite Rockstar's X post, they have no direct involvement in Marching Powder. The post appears to be a show of support for Dyer and Love, stemming from their past collaboration on The Football Factory.

Will Kent Paul Return in GTA 6?

The short answer is: we don't know. Rockstar's social media post offers no clues. It's important to note that the GTA universe is divided into the 3D era (PS2/PSP) and the HD era (GTA 4 onwards), considered separate universes. While there's some crossover (e.g., Grove Street's appearance in GTA 5), direct character continuations are rare. Interestingly, Kent Paul's name appears on the Vinewood Walk of Fame in GTA 5, leaving open the possibility of a return in GTA 6, though the Marching Powder post doesn't indicate this.
