The storyline begins with the Nohara family's move to a tranquil village in Akita Prefecture, prompted by Hiroshi's new job close to his hometown. They settle into a traditional Japanese farmhouse, embracing the serene countryside lifestyle. Early in the game, Shinnosuke, affectionately known as Shin Chan, delves into the pleasures of rural life alongside his grandfather, Ginnosuke. Players will spend their in-game mornings and evenings fishing in Akita's rivers, catching bugs in the groves, and learning the art of farming from grandma.
The plot thickens when Shiro, the family dog, mysteriously appears covered in soot and dashes away. Intrigued, Shin Chan follows him, leading to an unexpected encounter with a mysterious train that whisks them away to the enigmatic Coal Town.
Coal Town feels like it’s been frozen since the Showa era
Upon arriving in Coal Town, players are transported to a bustling locale reminiscent of the Showa era, complete with its retro aesthetics and energetic workers. The town offers a stark contrast to the quiet countryside, featuring a children's park, a diner, various shops, restaurants, and an apartment block. While some elements of the town are interactive, others serve as atmospheric backdrops.
In Coal Town, Shin Chan meets Yuri, a young and ambitious inventor, who enlists his help in gathering materials for her innovative projects aimed at improving life for the town's residents. However, her plans are disrupted by her older brother, Chuck, who introduces a 'waste-free' system that instead causes chaos. Players must assist Yuri in thwarting Chuck's misguided efforts and restoring harmony to Coal Town.
