Pearl Abyss Rejects PS5 Exclusivity Deal for Crimson Desert
Pearl Abyss, the developer behind the anticipated action-adventure game Crimson Desert, has reportedly declined a PlayStation exclusivity deal with Sony. The decision, according to a statement to Eurogamer, reinforces the company's commitment to self-publishing.
The developer emphasized its ongoing communication with partners and exploration of various collaborative opportunities, while clarifying that no release date or platform lineup has been finalized. "In our last quarter earnings call...we revealed that we would publish Crimson Desert independently," the statement read.
A playable build of Crimson Desert will be shown to media this week in Paris, with a public demonstration planned for G-Star in November. Previous reports suggested Sony sought a PS5 exclusivity agreement, potentially barring the game from Xbox for a period. However, Pearl Abyss deemed self-publishing the most financially advantageous route.
While a definitive release date remains unannounced, a PC, PlayStation, and Xbox launch is anticipated around Q2 2025.
