Crash Bandicoot 5 Allegedly Canceled After Studio Went Indie

Word on the street is that Crash Bandicoot 5 may have been canceled, according to a former Toys For Bob concept artist. Let's delve into the details of Nicholas Kole's revelation.

Another Project Bites the Dust: "Project Dragon"

Former Toys For Bob concept artist Nicholas Kole recently hinted on X (formerly Twitter) about a canceled Crash Bandicoot 5. This revelation came during a discussion about another scrapped project, "Project Dragon." While initial speculation pointed to a Spyro game, Kole clarified it was a new IP developed with Phoenix Labs. However, he used the opportunity to mention the fate of a potential Crash Bandicoot 5, suggesting it met a similar end. His comment: "It is not Spyro, but some day folks will hear about the Crash 5 that never was and it’s gonna break hearts."

Fans reacted with disappointment, echoing Kole's prediction.

Crash Bandicoot 5 Allegedly Canceled After Studio Went Indie

Earlier this year, Crash developer Toys For Bob transitioned from Activision Blizzard to become an independent studio, following Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard. Interestingly, Toys For Bob is now collaborating with Microsoft Xbox for their first independent title, though details remain scarce.

The last mainline Crash Bandicoot game, Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time (2020), achieved impressive sales, exceeding five million copies. Subsequent releases included the mobile runner Crash Bandicoot: On the Run! (2021) and the multiplayer title Crash Team Rumble (2023), the latter of which concluded its live service in March 2024.

With Toys For Bob's newfound independence, the possibility of a Crash Bandicoot 5 remains uncertain. Only time will reveal if this highly anticipated sequel will ever materialize, and hopefully, won't leave fans waiting years for an answer.
