The critically acclaimed series *Shōgun*, which triumphed with 18 Emmy Awards and 4 Golden Globes, is gearing up for an eagerly awaited second season. Cosmo Jarvis, known for his role as pilot John Blackthorn, has confirmed his return for Season 2 and will also step into the role of co-executive producer, as announced in an official FX press release.
Joining him, Hiroyuki Sanada, who portrays Lord Yoshii Toranaga and was the first to sign on for the new season back in May, has been elevated to an executive producer position after his contributions to the first season. Production for Season 2 is slated to commence in January 2026 in Vancouver, the same location where the original series was filmed.
FX has described the upcoming season as "a wholly original new chapter to the first season," which adapted James Clavell's novel. The network elaborated on the connection between the two seasons:
“In the first season, Lord Yoshii Toranaga (Sanada) fought for his survival as his enemies in the Council of Regents united against him. When a mysterious European ship was found marooned in a nearby village, its English pilot John Blackthorne (Jarvis) shared vital strategic secrets with Toranaga that tipped the scales of power in his favor to win a century-defining civil war.
"Part two of Shōgun is set 10 years after the events of the first season and continues the historically-inspired saga of these two men from different worlds whose fates are inextricably entwined."
Fans can look forward to potentially seeing new episodes by the end of 2026, but for now, we'll have to wait with bated breath and high hopes.
