Civilization 7 is shifting focus from its planned first in-game event to prioritize essential quality-of-life improvements based on player feedback. Discover what this means for the upcoming update and the future roadmap of the game.
Civilization 7 Delays First In-Game Event to Focus on Player Experience

Firaxis Games has announced the postponement of Civilization 7’s first in-game event, Natural Wonder Battle, to dedicate more development time to critical quality-of-life enhancements. In a development update shared on February 28, 2025, the team outlined their revised roadmap, confirming that Update 1.1.0 will launch on March 4, 2025, for PC and consoles—with a staggered release for Nintendo Switch.
Originally slated for inclusion in this update, the first in-game event has been moved to a future patch. Firaxis explained, "Although our first in-game Event, Natural Wonder Battle, was originally planned for Update 1.1.0 on March 4, events are now being postponed to a later update to allow us more time to prioritize quality-of-life improvements for players worldwide. We’ll share more details about the first in-game event once we’re ready."
Since early access began, the game has received mixed reactions, particularly regarding the user interface and overall usability. In response, Firaxis acknowledged community concerns, stating, "We are aware of and looking into feedback on the game's UI." They added, "We're continuing to make improvements to Civilization 7, and appreciate you taking the time to drop your feedback."
Update 1.1.0 Brings Key Fixes and New Content

Update 1.1.0 will center on addressing top player concerns and refining core gameplay systems. While full patch notes will be released at launch, Firaxis has previewed several major additions and improvements.
Players can look forward to the addition of a new natural wonder—the Bermuda Triangle—available for discovery at no cost. The update also includes highly anticipated UI adjustments aimed at improving navigation, clarity, and accessibility across all platforms.
Additionally, significant changes are coming to the Modern Age, particularly to the Cultural Legacy Path, enhancing progression and endgame depth. AI leaders will also see improvements in their ability to pursue and achieve Cultural Victories, creating a more balanced and competitive experience.
Alongside these updates, the first half of the paid Crossroads of the World Collection will become available. Players who own the relevant editions or have purchased the collection separately will receive this content automatically upon installing Update 1.1.0.
Major Update Scheduled for March 25, 2025

The next major update is set for March 25, 2025, though Firaxis notes this date is subject to change. This release will continue the push toward a more polished user experience, with ongoing UI refinements remaining a top development priority. The team emphasized, "Ongoing improvements to the User Interface continues to be a top priority for the development team. The updates being introduced on March 25 are just one part of a much larger plan that aims to improve the UI over the next several months."
Looking beyond March, the development roadmap includes several high-demand features currently in the planning phase. These include the beloved "one more turn" functionality, allowing players to extend gameplay past the Modern Age, the introduction of auto-explore, expanded map sizes for PC and consoles (excluding Switch), and enhanced multiplayer support.
Firaxis shared, "We’re in the process of scoping the work necessary to bring these priorities to the game as soon as we can. Some of these will be delivered as early as April (subject to change), though many will take longer to develop, test, and deploy. As always in development, plans can change and we'll have more details to share here in the weeks and months ahead as plans solidify. We appreciate your continued patience in the meantime!"
