Cross-Play: Civilization VII supports cross-play, but with limitations. Players need an active 2K account linked to their chosen platforms. Cross-play functions seamlessly between PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, macOS, and Linux, offering full map and player count options. However, Nintendo Switch players experience restrictions. The Switch version has limitations on map sizes (standard and larger maps are unsupported) and player counts (up to four players in Antiquity and Exploration Ages, six in the Modern Age). If a Switch player joins a cross-play game, these limitations apply to all participants. While playable on Switch, these limitations should be considered, especially in online multiplayer.

Cross-Progression: Unlike the complexities of cross-play, cross-progression in Civilization VII is straightforward. With an active 2K account, progress is synced across all linked platforms. Players can seamlessly continue their game on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, or other platforms without restarting. This feature, unlike in Civilization VI where it was a post-launch addition, is available from the outset in Civilization VII, reflecting modern gaming practices and catering to players with multiple devices. Whether on a Steam Deck, Switch, PC, or console, your progress is saved and accessible.

Civilization VII launches February 11th.
