Chrono Trigger Celebrates 30 Years with Upcoming Projects and a Special Concert

Square Enix is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the iconic JRPG, Chrono Trigger. The company has announced various projects planned for release throughout the coming year, sparking excitement and speculation amongst fans. While details remain scarce, the announcement hints at possibilities beyond a simple re-release.

For decades, fans have eagerly awaited a proper remaster or modern console release of this beloved title. Despite its legendary status, Chrono Trigger has only seen ports to PC and mobile platforms since its original 1999 PlayStation release. A definitive modern version remains a highly sought-after goal.

While a remake or console port isn't confirmed, Square Enix's announcement offers a glimmer of hope. The immediate celebration centers around a special livestream concert featuring Chrono Trigger's legendary soundtrack. This YouTube concert airs March 14th at 7:00 p.m. PT, running into the early hours of the next morning.

Chrono Trigger, a time-traveling RPG, boasts a legendary development team: Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi, Dragon Quest mastermind Yuji Horii, and Dragon Ball artist Akira Toriyama. Originally released in 1995 for the Super Famicom and SNES, the game follows Crono and his companions as they journey through history, from prehistoric times to a dystopian future. Players recruit allies, alter timelines, and confront one of gaming's most iconic final bosses.
