Capcom Enhances Resident Evil Trio for iOS with Online DRM

Author : Joshua Feb 02,2025

TouchArcade Rating: While updates for premium mobile ports often improve optimization or compatibility, Capcom's recent update to Resident Evil 7 biohazard, Resident Evil 4 Remake, and Resident Evil Village on iOS and iPadOS introduces unwelcome online DRM. This DRM verifies purchase history upon game launch, checking for ownership of the game and any DLC. Refusal results in game closure. This means constant online connectivity is now mandatory, unlike the previous offline playability. This change negatively impacts the user experience, particularly for those who purchased the games previously.

Pre-update testing confirmed offline functionality. Post-update, the DRM prompt appears, and selecting "no" terminates the game. While this may not affect all users, the forced online check is a significant drawback for a paid game. Ideally, Capcom should implement a less intrusive purchase verification method, perhaps checking less frequently. This update unfortunately diminishes the appeal of Capcom's premium iOS ports.
