Dynasty Warriors: Origins Battle of Hulao Gate Guide
Your objective is to defeat Dong Zhuo, the final boss of Chapter 2. This mission is significantly more challenging than previous ones, requiring a strategic approach.
Begin by clearing the four enemy bases in the bottom right of the map. Conquering two triggers a cutscene introducing mounted cavalry. Continue your base-clearing strategy; defeating Zhang Liao, the cavalry commander, rewards you with the twin pike weapon.
After securing all bases, assault Hulao Gate, initiating a major clash with Dong Zhuo's forces. Protect Cao Cao until he unleashes his Grand Tactic, weakening the defenses and allowing you to advance.
Lu Bu Appears
Dong Zhuo deploys Lu Bu. Avoid direct confrontation; he's overwhelmingly powerful at this stage. Instead, focus on eliminating enemy officers around the main battle to maintain morale, which Lu Bu significantly drains. Lu Bu will eventually attack your main base (where Yuan Shao is located). Resist the urge to pursue him; Liu Bei's forces will defend, giving you time to defeat Dong Zhuo. This creates a time limit; once Liu Bei's forces retreat, you must be close to defeating Dong Zhuo to prevent Lu Bu from eliminating Yuan Shao and ending the mission.
Go After Dong Zhuo
Once Lu Bu leaves, resupply at a conquered base if needed. Then, capture the northern and western bases. With all three squads ready and your health restored, charge towards Dong Zhuo's commander circle.
Dong Zhuo will initiate a Grand Tactic, launching fireballs. Destroy the two front catapults to end it. Use Musou Rage if available, clearing a path through soldiers to reach the catapults. Eliminate surrounding enemies to allow your forces to destroy the catapults.
Dong Zhuo will launch another Grand Tactic. Defeat an officer to counter it. Take the right-hand stairs; you'll encounter Diaochan, who has joined Dong Zhuo's forces. Ideally, duel her to avoid fighting her and the officer simultaneously. Once the Grand Tactic is thwarted, the path to Dong Zhuo is clear. Your forces, boosted by a potential Dian Wei Grand Tactic, should overwhelm Dong Zhuo's remaining forces. Defeat Dong Zhuo to complete the Battle of Hulao Gate.
