Bandai Namco has officially announced the closure of their fortress strategy action RPG, Naruto X Boruto Ninja Voltage. This marks another instance of a Bandai Namco gacha game shutting down, and for many players, the news isn't entirely unexpected.
This isn't the first time a Naruto-themed gacha game has faced such a fate. Fans might recall the struggles and eventual shutdown of Naruto Blazing, which also grappled with PvP issues before its closure.
When Is Naruto X Boruto Ninja Voltage Shutting Down?
After a journey that began in 2017, Naruto X Boruto Ninja Voltage will officially close its doors on December 9th, 2024. Players can continue enjoying the game until the shutdown date. In the lead-up to the end, several events are planned. The Village Leader World Championship will run from October 8th to October 18th, followed by the All-Out Mission from October 18th to November 1st. A 'Thanks For Everything' campaign will then take place from November 1st to December 1st to celebrate the game's run.
During this period, players can still collect Ninja Cards, participate in summoning events, and use in-game items right up until the final day. It's advisable for players to spend any remaining Gold Coins before the shutdown.
What Went Wrong?
Naruto X Boruto Ninja Voltage initially enjoyed a robust launch, featuring a balanced gameplay system that allowed players to construct their own villages, set traps, and utilize their favorite Naruto characters for defense during offline periods. However, the game's trajectory shifted around the midpoint of its lifespan. The introduction of Minato marked the beginning of a noticeable power creep, which was poorly received by the community. Additionally, the game increasingly leaned into pay-to-win mechanics, reduced rewards for free-to-play users, and saw a decline in multiplayer engagement.
These factors contributed to a growing sentiment among players that Naruto X Boruto Ninja Voltage was on a path to closure. For those curious, the game is still available for download on the Google Play Store.
