Assassin’s Creed Shadows: Max Level and Rank Cap Revealed

Author : Aurora May 14,2025

*Assassin’s Creed Shadows* stands out as one of the most expansive entries in the franchise, boasting a comprehensive progression system that matches its grand scale. Here's a detailed look at the max levels in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows* and how the level cap functions.

What Is the Max XP Level in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

*Assassin’s Creed Shadows* introduces a revamped progression system, blending traditional XP-based leveling with a new Knowledge Rank system. Gaining XP allows players to unlock higher-tier weapons, armor, and gear, while also enhancing the base stats of Naoe and Yasuke.

To fully explore all the Japanese provinces within the game, players need to reach Level 35. However, the XP grind doesn't stop there. Although Ubisoft initially suggested a level cap of 40, players can actually continue leveling up to 60. With the upcoming Claws of Awaji expansion, this level cap is expected to increase even further.

In *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, the Knowledge Rank system marks a significant evolution in the franchise’s progression mechanics. This system operates independently of the XP leveling and is advanced by accumulating Knowledge Points through various open-world activities focused on mindfulness and training. As players progress through the Knowledge Ranks, they unlock new skills for Naoe and Yasuke, which can then be activated using Mastery Points.

To access all available skills, players must reach Knowledge Rank 6. Beyond this, a new Knowledge tree becomes available, offering additional passive skills that allow players to tailor their build to their preferred play style.

Is There a Cap for Mastery in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

Mastery is the third pillar of progression in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, serving as the equivalent to skill points. Players use Mastery Points to unlock skills across six different Mastery trees for each protagonist. The cost to unlock skills can vary, with some requiring more Mastery than others.

While there is a vast array of skills to unlock, there isn't a practical cap on Mastery Points as they can be earned through a wide range of in-game activities. Achieving a limit on Mastery Points would require extensive gameplay, and the forthcoming Claws of Awaji expansion is expected to introduce new methods for earning Mastery in 2025.

Does Assassin’s Creed Shadows Have Level Scaling?

Each province in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows* is assigned a specific level, with Kii requiring the highest starting level of 35. As players progress and gain XP, the levels of some regions will scale to match the player's level, ensuring a continuous challenge.

However, from Level 42 onwards, the game introduces a scaling floor. The recommended level for each province will stay two levels below the player’s current XP level, maintaining a challenging yet rewarding endgame experience for those who invest significant time into the game.

*Assassin’s Creed Shadows* is currently available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
