Amazon has unveiled Alexa+, a significant upgrade to its standard Alexa voice assistant, now available in Early Access. This new version, powered by generative AI, promises a more natural conversational flow, making interactions feel more like chatting with a friend. Amazon boasts that "Alexa+ is more conversational, smarter, personalized – and she helps you get things done," highlighting its enhanced capabilities to assist with a variety of tasks.
Currently, Alexa+ is accessible only on a select range of Echo Show devices, including the Echo Show 8, 10, 15, and 21. If you own or are planning to purchase one of these devices, you can sign up for notifications to join the Early Access phase. After this initial period, Alexa+ will become a free benefit for Amazon Prime members, or available to non-Prime users for a monthly fee of $19.99.

With Alexa+, you can engage in spontaneous conversations, asking it to help with tasks ranging from managing your to-do list and finding calendar details to booking restaurant reservations. The Alexa+ Early Access page promises "new features being added regularly," suggesting that the assistant will continue to evolve post-launch.
However, not all devices will support Alexa+. Older models such as the Echo Dot 1st Gen, Echo 1st Gen, Echo Plus 1st Gen, Amazon Tap, Echo Show 1st Gen, Echo Show 2nd Gen, and Echo Spot 1st Gen will remain with the original Alexa. Amazon has plans to expand Alexa+ compatibility to more devices, including Fire TV, Fire tablets, and Alexa.com in the near future.
