As a practical person when it comes to spending, I've always focused on essentials and the occasional video game on sale. However, the allure of revisiting childhood joys led me to consider purchasing a LEGO set last year, despite their often steep prices. Sets linked to popular franchises, like movies or video games, tend to be pricier, which is why it took me a while to justify buying the LEGO Super Mario Piranha Plant. It had been on sale since October of last year for under $50, and I finally decided it was time to add a new, albeit whimsical, potted plant to my desk.

My interest in the Piranha Plant set was sparked after reading IGN's review. As a long-time fan of the Mario franchise, this set seemed the perfect way to showcase my enthusiasm. While LEGO's botanical line offers beautiful flower sets, none capture the fun and slightly eerie charm of the Piranha Plant.

Now that I've built the set, I'm thrilled to have it on my desk. It transports me to the Mushroom Kingdom, where I'm tending to my little Piranha Plant during work hours. The building process was enjoyable and challenging enough to keep me engaged for an entire afternoon. This is currently my only LEGO Nintendo set, but my positive experience has me considering adding more to my collection.

How Much Are You Willing to Spend on a LEGO Set You Love?
LEGO sets can be a costly indulgence, especially with new adult-targeted sets often priced at $200 or more. It's important to find a balance between treating yourself and maintaining financial responsibility. The Mario LEGO set, priced under $50, felt like a justified purchase for me. The joy it brings me daily as I work alongside it certainly seems worth the cost, though that's my personal limit.
