Activision Loses Lawsuit Over COD Ban

Author : Evelyn Mar 13,2025

A player known as b00lin waged a 763-day legal battle against Activision, ultimately overturning an unfair ban and restoring their Steam reputation. The saga began in December 2023 after b00lin played over 36 hours of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 beta. Initially dismissed as a technical error, Activision’s refusal to lift the ban spurred b00lin into action.

While most would have conceded defeat, b00lin's persistence led to a court case. Activision, citing security concerns, refused to provide evidence of cheating, even withholding seemingly innocuous details like the name of the flagged software. The court, however, revealed Activision's lawyers lacked concrete proof of wrongdoing, highlighting the company's stringent anti-cheat secrecy. The ruling sided with b00lin, ordering Activision to cover legal fees and lift the ban, which finally occurred in early 2025.
